Poetry of Self-Criticism : Ceramics Solo Exhibition by CHAN On-Kei

Poetry of Self-Criticism : Ceramics Solo Exhibition by CHAN On-Kei

For hundreds of years, high heels symbolize a certain form of feminism, an illusion and expectations towards women in a patriarchal framework of society. CHAN On-Kei sets out from her point of views to create works using high heels as female symbol, while she expresses her body experiences of wearing high heels and her emotional conflicts of love and hate. The soul leaves body when one dies. The skeletons are left after autopsies. Like the structure of the human body, the skeletons are used to symbolize the framework of a society. In this frame it carries a desire in one’s genes, a state of dissection and self-retrospection in which the desire is shown cut open or dug out.
